A motorsport legend and a lasting friendship

Way back when we opened our Southern Cross Sheds Toowoomba office, a good friend asked Leon, our Southern Cross Sheds owner, if he would like Dick Johnson to attend the official opening.

Of course, Leon, and the rest of the team were more than excited and delighted to meet him, and to have him attend the grand opening. His presence helped draw a massive crowd eager to meet the motorsport icon in the flesh, and to have an autograph signed.

After the event, Dick asked what our plans were for Southern Cross Sheds, and if we would like him to be our brand ambassador. Naturally, we jumped at his kind offer, and since then, Dick has become a very close friend of ours, and he always gives his time to attend the annual charity events that we are involved in.

Our connection with Dick Johnson

Since hitting it off at the Toowoomba office opening event, Leon has known Dick personally for many years now. Dick is truly a Queenslander – he is passionate about his local community, and he is grateful for all the support he has received since beginning his racing career in 1964.

“Dick is always happy to give the time to fans that approach him for an autograph, a photo, a quick chat about a memory they have of him, or even just to say ‘G’day’. He told me that without his fans, he wouldn’t be where he is today. The generosity of his supporters when he hit the infamous rock at Bathurst, which caused him to crash out of the race, saved his racing team, and helped Dick to lead his team to the heights of success.” Leon Bishop, Owner of Southern Cross Sheds.

Despite his packed schedule, being a co-owner of Dick Johnson Racing and Formula Johnson, Dick continues to take the time to represent and support our company, and our community initiatives.

He is simply one-of-a-kind, and we are very thankful for his friendship and support over the years.

Supporting Our Local Community

As Dick Johnson has shown us his support, we too have taken a leaf out of his book, and show our support for the local community. Building a strong society, where everyone gets a fair go is important to us, and as such, we also throw our weight behind charity events and local sports teams.

Check out our Community Support page to see the events, and the teams that we sponsor.
